How the Calculator Works

Trade businesses aren't valued on revenue — they're valued on Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE), which is roughly revenue × net margin (trades run 12–18%). A buyer then applies a multiple to that SDE.

The multiple is where systemisation pays off. A paper-based, owner-dependent business sells for 1.2–1.8× SDE. A business running on integrated software with predictable recurring revenue can command 2.0–3.0×. That's the difference between selling for $250K and selling for $600K — on the same revenue.

Tip: your "recurring revenue" input matters more than most owners think. A business with 25%+ recurring revenue attracts a genuine multiple premium, because buyers pay for predictable income.
